Today’s blogpost is all about skincare. We’re going to be doing a face off (pun intended) of the Bioderma Sensibio H20 and its ever so popular (proclaimed) dupe, the Garnier Micellar Water. Just a quick question before we proceed, though. Are you a fan of double cleanse? Let us know in the comments below!

Now we’re sure most of you are familiar with the concept of Micellar Water, but just in case you’re not, let us sum it up for you. Micellar Water, according to dermatologist Hadley King of Skinney Medspa, is made of micelles. Micelles are tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules which are suspended in soft water. She says, “The idea is that micelles are attracted to dirt and oil, so they are able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin.” So basically, they cleanse your face from impurities, remove makeup without excessively drying out your skin and leaves it soft and supple, all in one go. Magical, right?

Okay, so now that we’re on the same page, let’s hop onto the actual comparison part, shall we?

We don’t know about you, but the first ever Micellar Water we feel like we heard about was the one by Bioderma. This was so hyped up, it had to be bought! It was that day and this day, we never went back to regular makeup removers. Such a miracle find. But Bioderma can be a little heavy on the wallet, especially if you go through bottles like we do.

So we decided to try out another hyped up product these days, the Garnier Micellar Water Cleanser. Now this is a drugstore dupe, so it doesn’t cost a pretty penny and is a lot easier to get a hold of. It claims to do pretty much the same as the Bioderma and it is used in the same no cleanse required method as well.

COMPARISON

A few common things in both are the comfortable packaging and their usage. Both are meant to be used with a cotton pad dampened with the product. Cleanse face with the cotton pad until one comes out clean.  The best part is that no cleanse off is required, however, double cleansing fans may do so.

GARNIER MICELLAR WATER

PROS

  • Cheaper

  • Easier to find

  • Removes makeup

  • Doesn’t cause breakouts

CONS

  • Slightly scented

  • Forms a weird foamy film while cleansing

  • More product required to thoroughly cleanse skin of makeup and dirt

  • Not medicated

  • Skin feels tacky after cleansing, so we prefer to double cleanse (with another product after this

  • The biggest con of all, the one thing that completely throws us off of this product: it stings sensitive eyes like anything

BIODERMA SENSIBIO H2O

PROS

  • Not scented

  • Effectively removes all makeup and cleanses

  • Not as much product required

  • Skin feels thoroughly cleansed, no double cleanse required

  • Skin doesn’t feel tacky nor too dry

  • Doesn’t break out skin

  • Perfect for sensitive skin

  • Medicated, found at Pharmacies

  • Does not sting eyes whatsoever

CONS

  • Comparatively pricier, however, nothing that would break the bank

  • A little harder to find

OUR VERDICT

The Garnier one is good and does the job but Bioderma is Bioderma. We feel like it beats all Micellar Waters every single time.

Bioderma Sensibio H2o, 10/10. Nothing bad to say about the product.

It’s comes in 3 different sizes: 100 ml, 250 ml and 500 ml. The 500 ml one has two different types. One is a standard bottle. The other has a pump attached. It’s a weird pump, but we personally prefer using this bottle as compared to the standard. It’s easier, makes the process faster and you don’t even need to pick up the bottle. Keep a cotton pad on top of the flat pump, press a couple times with your palm on it until it is drenched with the solution and use. Just make sure that the cotton pad is fully covering the pump, though. Otherwise you’ll have poor ol’ Bioderma splashed everywhere on your vanity. Been there, done that (one too many times – oops).
