WHAT’S FOR IFTAR?
The Nando’s Ramadan Platter 2018 consisted of dates, laban, lentil soup, a shredded chicken slider, two chicken wings, two chicken skewers, 2-3 strips of pita bread, a hummus and red pepper dip, a side of greens and any other side of your choice.
All this for 7.9 OMR. Now you must be wondering, the menu sure as heck sounds like a mouthful, how could one not be wowed after stuffing all of that?
Well, it sounds like a lot and sure, the item count is long. But something was still not right with this platter. Let’s break it down for you, shall we?
THE RAMADAN PLATTER
LABAN AND DATES
Delicious and refreshing. No issues.
LENTIL SOUP
Absolutely divine. Especially with freshly squeezed lemon, this was yum and probably our favourite thing out of the entire platter.
Alarmed yet? Yes, soup was our favourite thing at a place that’s best in chicken.
TOO LESS BREAD, TOO MUCH DIP
The hummus and red pepper dip was just alright but it certainly outweighed the quantity of bread we had to dip in it. Sure, we had a few greens to dunk in it, but you know what we mean.
Speaking of greens…
THE GREEN SALAD
Fresh tossed greens. The basic.
Now the mains.
CHICKEN WINGS
Two wings. Y’all know how much chicken there is in wings, right?
CHICKEN SKEWERS
2 chicken skewers. Finally, we could taste Nando’s classic chicken! But alas, just 4 squares of it.
THE ONE SLIDER
100% an extra. No efforts to make it look better or taste like a slider. In our vert honest opinion, this may sound very harsh, but it was like they had a ton of leftover chicken, shredded that and… you know the drill.
WHY WE WEREN’T WOWED
The point is that there were a lot of items on the platter but none of them were worth the price they came with. Overall, in our opinion, if we got a better tasting salad with maybe even just Olive Oil as a dressing and the focus on getting the quantity of the chicken right, we would’ve been happy to lose the bread, the slider and the not so yum dips.
Peri Peri is enough!
When there are so many delicious Iftar options around town for scrumptious unlimited buffets priced at much lower than this, why would one go to Nando’s for a not so yum meal?
We don’t know.
