A new stepping stone for prosperity in Oman – the New Muscat International Airport shines with the bright faces of passengers going in and coming out.
The long awaited new structure stretches across 335,000 square metres with 6,000 square metres of duty free shopping space, 8,000 parking spaces and 96 counters for check in.
With facilities state of the art, the airport has 149 elevators and two car parks, each with five levels, accommodating 2,300 cars in total. This excludes the external parking slots with 2,054 covered parking slots, 2,262 open and 406 slots for airport employees.
The building includes extensive retail outlets, lounges for first class and business class passengers, airline and car rental offices, information, etc. A four star hotel is also included in the building with 90 rooms and other facilities.
Aiming to be amongst the top 20 airports in the world by 2020, the new terminal will be able to handle 20 million passengers per year and increasing to 48 million in the future.
