You know the feeling when you wish on a shooting star and after years that prayer is granted?
You guessed it. We were all about that feeling when we first heard UK’s favourite Asian food chain based on Japanese cuisine, Wagamama, would be welcomed by Oman.
We were even more over the moon when we received a gorgeous, physical invite with beautiful black chopsticks, asking us to be a part of their Soft Opening Event.
You might recall a little Talk of the Town article about them over on our blog about their event.
We let the busy event and overcrowded space be the cause of delayed service and perhaps not so good taste at the event. We let the fact go that we received our food at about 10pm. The restaurant/event was two thirds empty already by this point.
Since we LOVE Wagamama in Dubai, we thought of giving it another go.

Let’s start with the not so favourites, so we can end this blogpost on a better note.
Please keep in mind that this is not just our personal review. This is a mix of our experience, plus asking around friends and acquaintances their experiences as well.
In our two visits, we have given three starters a try. None of which we would go back for. The Edamame beans were flavourless. The Gyoza was just okay and the Ebi Katsu a little overpriced for the average tasting 5 small prawns received.
The vegetable Ramen noodles were alright. Too bland, but then that’s the cuisine.
Chicken fried with Panko crumbs, placed on a bed of sticky rice and curry is a dish we have heard lots about – The Chicken Katsu Curry.
We gave it a shot and well, we can’t describe it without sounding really negative. Two of our friends had tried the same and left it as is.
Maybe we’re not cut out for this curry but we’re never going near it again, that’s for sure!
Now onto the parts that were good!
The restaurant is very well done, much better than the Dubai set up. It has great, lively ambiance and friendly staff. The menu is decent and self-explanatory, even for those not familiar with the cuisine.
OUR FAVOURITES AT WAGAMAMA
Sparkling Elderflower
This just tastes like nothing we have tried before. Such subtle yet heady flavour of elderflower and just the right amount of sparkle. Not too bitter nor too sweet. We can go back just to have a swig!
Banana Katsu
This probably has to be one of our top 10 desserts had in Muscat, which is saying a lot, considering the fact that we are big on chocolate.
Two deep fried panko crumbs coated Banana slices with a scoop of Salted Caramel ice cream is the glorious Banana Katsu. What a delightful and surprising combination.
