Qibara is a soulful, gastronomic amalgamation of the new and the old!
Nestled in the busy hub of Seeb Souq, this restaurant created quite a buzz that made me visit it all the way from Bowsher.
Plush interiors with a mix of traditional and contemporary and some interesting, vintage pieces of art is Qibara’s definition!
The menu takes you to a culinary world tour and covers it all. From Nachos to Nasi Goreng and from Mandi to Rib Eye, you have it all under one roof!
OUR DRINKS
The refreshing Lemon Iced tea. Organic tea with orange blossom hints and lime was absolutely soul soothing.
I was told that the restaurant had their own secret recipe of preparing this and it was divine.
Definitely hard to replicate!
OUR FOOD
We ordered Sweet corn chicken soup, Creamy chicken soup in a bread bowl, butter chicken and chilli chicken.
COMPLIMENTARY
We were served popcorn with a twist of sumac. Yes sumac and butter!
Such a unique preparation yet delicious.
SOUPS
Both of them comforting. The sweet corn chicken soup was different. It had scallions and egg drop and freshly ground black pepper. The medley of scallions and carrots made it nourishing and wholesome.
Loved it!
The creamy chicken soup in a bread bowl was eye candy and delectable.
Creamy and thick in texture with a right balance of salt and pepper, this was outright yum!
MAIN COURSE
Coming to the mains, these were not impressive for me.
Butter chicken served with butter nans were beautifully presented but it lacked that smoky punch for me. It was tangier rather than sweet and that sweet aroma of dried fenugreek leaves was a miss.
This godly chicken dish; chargrilled to perfection, basted in butter and served in a rich creamy tomato sauce requires loads of practice to get it right.
(For me in Oman, Jashn and Grill house serve some good butter chicken)
But I would say it was well attempted!
Again breaking the stereotype, the fried rice was served on a succulent bed of Chili Chicken and not vice versa.
The riot of colours in this dish was well highlighted on black serving platters.
The rice was fluffy, wok fried with veggies and the customary sauces of soya and chilies and the dash of vinegar made it perfect.
However, the chili chicken was more on the sour side rather than the spicy for me.
OUT OF THIS WORLD DESSERTS
Tiramisu, vanilla pudding tart and chocolate balls filled with mango, coconut and ganache.
Soft and scrumptious, the tiramisu was outstanding. This mascarpone custard layered dessert with ladyfinger biscuits dipped in coffee was to die for.
The chocolate balls were tiny drops of heaven. Beautifully presented too as a ball, this is a dessert that’s worth making a trip to this place.
The tart was rectangular with vanilla layers of pudding and caramelized sugar dust.
OVERALL REVIEW
The prices are very reasonable and the staff courteous and attentive.
Qibara’s drinks and desserts were brilliant which indicates their intention to floor you. I had a wonderful time looking around at their artefacts, pictures and cutlery .
Definitely worth a drive and a second visit to try more from their menu.
