One of our favourite makeup items to pop on would have to be highlighter. It wouldn’t be the makeup product we would take on a deserted island if allowed only one product, but it definitely makes us feel like a million bucks with our highlight on fleek!

We all love and use powder highlights and given the variety out there, every one of us is sure to have a couple of holy grails. But when it comes to liquid highlighters/illuminators, boy do we know that they scare people! There are strobe creams, liquid illuminators, metallic liquid drops that everyone uses for that Instagram glam glow- THERE ARE SO MANY, and that too which are not exactly wearable for every day.

Worry not, though, we got you!

THE PRODUCT ITSELF

The Nyx Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in the shade Gleam is just as the name suggests. It is such a beautiful rose gold highlight that is neither metallic not reflective, it just makes you glow. Period.

A little goes a long way with this little guy which is great. It can be applied directly on the high points of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose and wherever your heart may desire. It can also be applied before your foundation, but since this illuminator is subtle and doesn’t have any strobing properties, it doesn’t show up that well after you’ve applied a layer or two of coverage over the top. Our personal favourite way, however, is to mix this in with foundation. Holy word, is the finish gorgeous! It’s subtle, which is great for daytime, and gives you the most beautiful overall dewy finish. Thankfully, it doesn’t make the foundation tacky or any different to apply. It blends like a dream. Easy peasy.

It doesn’t have chunky glitters in it (which are pretty unflattering if you ask us) and instead, has tiny shimmers that make it just beautiful, as you can see in the swatch above.

Ready for a fire up of pros and cons?

PROS

  • Multiple ways of application

  • Gives a beautiful overall dewy finish if mixed in with foundation

  • Isn’t tacky

  • Blends easy

  • Doesn’t clog up pores nor accentuates them

  • Contains shimmers instead of glitters (more flattering)

  • Wearable in the daytime

  • Affordable

  • Great 4 shades to cater to every skin tone

CONS

  • A little goes a long way, otherwise can look like a pink stripe on the cheekbones

  • Squeezy tube, not the easiest to get a tiny amount of product out

  • Doesn’t show up as much if applied beneath foundation

  • Slightly alters shade of foundation when mixed in- bronzed goddess look, so don’t mix it if you are looking for something to dew you up without the bronze

OUR VERDICT

7/10. Despite the few cons, we would still recommend this for that beautiful overall glowy, dewy look, especially for the price you have to pay for this drugstore product.
